I have to agree with the other posts that the quality of the train items has gone down greaty. I would also agree with paying more for better quality and much less plastic on the engines. Also I wish they would standardize on the size of items produced using the 1996 engine as the base size.

2016 773 Hudson
This item is pretty good in attention to detail. It's a lot like the original 1996 Hudson (but it's is not near as fancy or well made as the 1996 Hudson). Additionally, and most notably, the connecting rods are nothing like the connecting rods on the aforementioned Hudson or the 2001 Chessie. The rods on the 2016 Hudson are flimsy and cheap looking. They look like they were merely stamped out of sheet metal. No craftsmanship at all. Their cheap look falls in line with the Lionel trains of late. Top quality and attention to detail are history for this series. I would rather pay a little more and have something worth collecting.

Pretty much junk
The 2016 loco and tender look to me like nothing more than a reissue of the 2013 loco and tender (perhaps with some minor cosmetic changes). I have every loco, tender, and car since the Hallmark train series came into being(1996), and I am very disappointed in the lack of inspiration. It seems that in recent years the loco has been predominately the Berkshire. And the quality of workmanship is seriously pathetic. Were it not for the fact that I have every loco and piece of rolling stock since the beginning, I'd stop getting each years offerings. Very shoddy quality. I am truly disappointed with Hallmark.
